1. There are 3 BP types - Person, Organization, Group
Person: As the name suggest, you create a BP as a person when you are creating master data for an individual like Employee as BP in HR module
Organization: You create BP as organization if you are creating a master data for other companies like Customer/ Vendor etc.
Group: This normally reperesnts the Group of Organization or Individuals.
2. Whether to use same number range for BP and Vendor - It is better to use same number ranges, but some times due to historical vendor no, it may not be possible to provide same numbers.
